Easy Bake Lessons…
I’ve decided there is no such thing. So, when I was little I wanted an Easy-bake Oven so badly. One birthday, I was sure I was going to get it. But instead, my Mom and Dad sat me down and told me that they went to buy it and just couldn’t bring themselves to get it for me. They wanted to teach me to cook instead. I was extremely disappointed. It is called Easy-bake for a reason! You open the package add a little water, put it in the tin watch it cook for 10 minutes and you are done. Walla! Instant gratification and in a perfect diet size portion! What could be better?
Now, (a long time later) as I am teaching my Dear Daughter to cook for a YW’s ten hour project….after all these years, I finally know how much my parents love me. Yesterday, lunch took six hours. I couldn’t tell if it really tasted amazing or if I was just starving. It is a good thing I truly enjoy her company or I would really be hurting. That is what I get for not appreciating my parents. Now I have a daughter who doesn’t like Easy-bake anything! (We made Philly cheese steaks in fresh homemade pitas.) She’s not into macaroni in box or top roman noodles no matter what we add to it. Paybacks….
So today, I helped her make customized instant oatmeal packages. We took regular steel cut oats, put them in a food processor with some salt until they were really small and added dried peaches and non-dairy creamer and some sugar, divided them up into 6 portions, all so I could sleep in tomorrow. She’s 12 she can boil water all by herself. Tomorrow is YW’s, they are cooking a meal for a sister who just had a baby….- that can be her lesson for the day. She’s taking a bottle of salad dressing. The moral of the story…just get the Easy-bake and have a tiny bite sized tea party!
O my goodness. I was laughing as I read your post! You are so right!! Easy bake is too easy! I did get one for my birthday or Christmas one year and all I remember is eating very little and being disappointed that my mom wouldn’t by anymore easy bake packets. My easy baking days lasted about a day! haaa. I am glad that Chey is learning to cook and that your parents loved you enough to teach you! I have been blessed by your cooking expertise more than once! If there was an easy baking kit for adults, I have to admit I would want to give it a try! haa.
I know right?! I sometimes like to imagine all the things I could get done if I didn’t have to eat and then there are times that I hit a recipe just right and I’m so grateful for tastebuds and eating and I think for a moment, it was worth all the hard work…until I have to clean up of course.
Hugs,
