She Loves to Entertain

Five parents showed up to my Cub Scout’s Parent night! I was so excited. Derek and I brought a movie  and the kids just in case,  (to watch on the projector in the cultural hall,) because we thought no one would show up. Cub Scouts isn’t as much of a big deal here as it is in Arizona and there was a football game tonight.  (We didn’t have a chance)
So speaking of… When Derek and I lived in AZ, we had the wonderful opportunity to go on 4 all expense trips to Cabo, Rode Island, Florida, and Napa Valley. Napa Valley was my favorite. All the of the trips included drinks. As I sipped my mineral water, during appetizers, I kept thinking about all the fun glassware I saw, and how colorful the drinks were. I thought it would be fun to make drinks without alcohol. “Virgin” Drinks as they are called or Mock-tails, seemed like a fun thing to try. So over the last year I’ve been working on perfecting the flavor of the Shirley Temple, the Roy Rogers, and the Mojito. The other day I remembered a fun drink from the Friend Magazine originally printed in 1976.  It was printed recently again in the July 2000 Friend . It is called a Brown Cow. It just has Milk and Root-beer. So I tried it with different amounts of milk, half and half and cream. My family liked it best with 2 parts root-beer and 1 part cream.
So  tonight we served the Brown Cow and some of the other drinks I’ve been working on, for refreshments. I thought, since it was a parent’s meeting, I would make it as fun as possible. More recipes coming soon.
