Temple Work and Family History

December’s Visiting Teaching message is on temple work and family history. I thought this candy filled tree, with leaves telling simple ways to get started in family history would be a fun handout this month. You will need some candy (I used kisses and hugs), a brown paper bag, a yellow ribbon or string, paper leaves (Click Here for Printout,) and some glue.

  1. Fill the bag with a handful of candy.
  2. Twist over the candy in the middle of the bag.
  3. Tear one branch
  4. Twist it
  5. Continue the same way until you have about four or five branches
  6. Cut leaves and glue them on.
  7. Tie a yellow ribbon loosely around the trunk.

And there you have it a Family Histotree for your VT Handout.  There are also some cute family trees in the Friend Magazine too. Here are two:

My Family Tree October 2009 – Real cute and includes a poem.
My Family Tree March 1994 (No printout available on church website)

  • I really love this project!! I am Activity Days leader and we are putting together FHE packets tonight – this is a perfect activity for the lesson on Family History!! When I was looking last week there was a comment left by someone asking for the blank leaves download, and you commented with a new link, but now I can’t find it or any comments. Would it be possible to get that blank leaves file? Thanks so much!!

  • Sorry to bother! I found it! It was on another post Chapter 40: Family History and Temple Work from October 23, 2011. Thanks so much!!
