Confession: My Charity Faileth
So I did my visiting teaching yesterday (on the last day of the month) and while preparing these lovely little bottles of Vinegar with the nice story, quote and recipe attached, (find instructions here)I realized that I’m not so good all the time with the Charity thing. I mean, sure I love to help others, and nurture the sick and give to the needy but when it comes to the hard stuff about charity, the stuff President Monson spoke about….not so much. President Monson said,
“Charity is having patience with someone who has let us down. It is resisting the impulse to become offended easily. It is accepting weaknesses and shortcomings. It is accepting people as they truly are. It is looking beyond physical appearances to attributes that will not dim through time. It is resisting the impulse to categorize others.” View Talk Here
See, just when you think you’ve got it down. My name is Bianca and sometimes my Charity Faileth…with a big fat F. (Sigh) Always something to work on. And that is why I included a copy of this article in my visiting teaching handout…along with everything else, of course. It describes 15 difficult family personalities and how to deal with them during the holidays. It may be more funny than helpful, but at least it would put a smile on their face. Anyway I wrapped it up and told them to open only in case of an emergency. Hopefully, the quote, the story, and the recipe for homemade window cleaner will automatically instill in them enough Charity for everyone in their lives, but just in case… and as for me…I think I will go read President Monson’s talk again…and again…and practice and read it again….and practice… and read it again…fortunately for me…I have plenty of people in my life that I can practice on. I’m so blessed.
You accept me for who I am. I give you an A :).
