Confession: Sense or Sensibility

My daughter and I are reading Sense and Sensibility for the second time. I decided that I am more like Marrianne than Elinor. I’m more likely to  be loud in the library than quiet in the church halls. I am more likely to inspire gasps in relief society than to inspire anyone with standard comments. I’m more likely to rock the boat than let it sink with me in it. I’m more reckless with my own heart than I am with other peoples. I love with all my heart and I go down fighting….and sometimes I dance like no one is watching. I am not a wallflower. I’m more likely to eat a whole bag of chips than take a ladies size portion at an expensive restaurant. I’m more likely to wear a hat than pantyhose to church and I care less about what other people think than what I think of myself….but that will never do.  My name is Bianca and I have more sense than sensibility. I would like to be better at being temperate, slow to anger, and graceful under pressure. I would gladly give up being passionate and spontaneous for stability and peace and quiet. Age is doing that for me. Always something to work on.

  • I love love love this post! It is sooo well written! I am right there with you, although I have to admit that I am a lot like Marianne when no one is around and a lot like Elinor in public. I don’t think that says anything positive about me, but its the truth. =) Love you!

  • Actually, I think that is a very positive trait! Then you are true to yourself in the most productive way. I think that is what I will work on specifically, trying to be like Elinor at least in public. It’s all about the baby steps. You know who my favorite Elinor is in my life? You guessed it, our dear Mother in Law.
    Hugs,

  • I think it probably says that you read way more Louis L’amour than Jane Austen and that might make you more likely to be found by a campfire than in a country club sipping tea and that’s a good thing. We like our men rugged, hardworking, manly, willing to fight for a good cause, save the underdog and win the day.
    Hugs,
