What’s it like to get your patriarchal blessing?

I just got my patriarchal blessing about a month ago. And let me tell ya……it is such a beautiful, amazing experience! So first you (and whoever is with you) will go into a room where the patriarch (person who gives you the blessing) and the recorder (person who records the blessing). The room will have multiple chairs for your family and a singular chair by the patriarch (the chair in which you will get your blessing). You all will sit down and the patriarch will get to know you a little bit. Then you will sit down in the chair by the patriarch (if you weren’t already in it) and he will give you the blessing! In the blessing, he will give you your lineage (what tribe of Israel you are from), and sometimes even talk about your premortal existence he will also tell you little bit about your future as well as warnings (things to try and look out for in your life)! Make sure to keep in mind that this is God talking through the patriarch, not the patriarch himself, the patriarch often doesn’t remember much of what was said in the blessing! After your blessing you will go home and after a few weeks you will get a printed copy of your blessing in the mail!

So when you get there, you will meet with the patriarch and the person that will record the blessing. Then the patriarch will lay his hands on your head and give you the blessing. He will declare your lineage (not blood, but job wise), give you the info you need to do God’s work and tell you things you should stay away from (keep in mind that this info is coming from God through the patriarch, not from the patriarch). Then afterwards, they will edit it and send it to you through the mail (this may take a couple of weeks).
