What is it Like to Fast?

Jericho Age 14 Says:

So….first things first, it takes 30 days to die of starvation. You are only going to fast a maximum of two meals, one day a month. So its not that bad. You will be ok. Sure it might make you a bit grumpy but other then that it’s fine. It’s completely safe.

My Fasting Tips and tricks:
1. Have a good meal planed for after fasting (so you have something to look forward to)
2. Drink lots of water before and after fasting.
3. Watch a fun movie with your family, friends, or roommate at the end of the day (for best results watch something clean and uplifting like older Disney movies made no later then 2019).

Gaby Age 12 Says:

Last Sunday I fasted for the first time! There are multiple reasons to fast,

  • It’s fast Sunday.
  • You or someone you know is going through a hard time or is sick.
  • You are trying to find a solution for something.
  • You can fast for hope or for gratitude in a given situation. You can even fast to ease disappointment.
  • Really any reason that feels appropriate to fast!

I fasted before receiving my Patriarchal Blessing. I started fasting on Saturday night and then broke my fast on Sunday, after I received my blessing.

If you are fasting on a fast Sunday it is usually only two meals, but if you are fasting during a hard time or trying to find a solution to something, the amount of time is up to you. If you are fasting to find a solution, you can fast until you find it, or feel better about it.

When you are fasting for a long time, you may get headaches, or have other physical symptoms. It is helpful to drink a lot of water to help cleanse your body of toxins when you fast. Drinking soda or liquids other than water may do more harm then good when fasting. Water is always best. It is completely normal to be emotional or moody while fasting. This is another symptom of the release of toxins. My first time, I thought that I would only be fasting one meal, so when I found out it was two I literally cried!

Gaby’s tips and tricks:

  • Drink ALOT of water before and after fasting!
  • Clear all yummy food, snacks, candy/sweets, ETC OUT OF SIGHT!
  • Plan a really yummy dinner and (if possible) a fun drink and dessert.
  • Take advantage (do something fun and/or productive) with all of the extra time you have (which is a lot!).
  • Try and stay busy to keep your mind off your hunger!
