My Meal Plan
Hmmmm, lets see. A plan… I didn’t realize how hard this was until my Daughter tried to do it for a YW project and I kept saying things like…”Your brother won’t eat that, “That isn’t your father’s favorite. Should we think of something else?,” “That is too expensive, ” and my personal favorite, “That is way too much work for dinner.”
Before we had children, my husband and I ate very well. I would spend hours finding new and fun flavors as well as mixing our two family’s favorites for a wonderful dinner of comfort food. For example, my mother made up a flat bread recipe she called, “Ranch Bread.” My mother in law makes an easy, gravy type soup she calls, “Cowboy Stew”. So I combined the two and we had wonderful dinners, full of fun memories. Then I had two children close together and dinner became whatever I could make before the meltdowns began. (Mine included) So naturally, we all became big fans of hot dogs, chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese. Then there were sports and dance lessons and I became a big fan of the crock pot and then we moved on to portion sized freezer meals and finally our life has slowed down enough to enjoy full cooked meals. Except that now I have a baby again and I remember why I enjoyed macaroni and cheese so much. Because I could cook it fast enough, before the baby’s cry turned to to a scream and because by the time I actually sat down to eat it, I was so hugary it tasted amazing! So here is my menu:
Monday, Theme: Italian Food, Macaroni and cheese
Tuesday, Seafood Night, Hotdogs cut and shaped like an octopus on top of left over Mac and Cheese
Wednesday, YM/YW Night -Frozen Pizza
Thursday, Comfort Food Night, Frozen Chicken Nuggets and Mashed Potato Flakes
Friday, Date Night, Whatevers on the Menu of course! and for the kids and babysitter, Chef Boyardee, Beef Ravioli, Family Size
Saturday, Daddy Makes Dinner Night – Waffles!
Sunday, Mexican, frozen bean and beef burritos.
The idea is to sit together and eat dinner right? I mean it still counts if it isn’t that nutritius right? The studies shown, never mentioned what the families actually ate! So, for me it is baby steps. Once I we can eat dinner together, I’ll move on to actually using the oven! And I’ll wear a pretty apron with matching oven mitts and dishwashing gloves and everything.
