Report: My Day With Budget Lady Part 2

Shopping Second Hand: B

Shopping second hand can be tricky in fact I swore when My DH was making more than x amount I would never shop second hand again. But with all the conference talks on being frugal and in a sincere effort to becoming more like Molly…here are some things I learned.

1. The homemade price list is priceless. It is so very easy to pay more at a second hand store just because you are getting it at a second hand store. When it doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best price. So having a price list of where you can get things and for what price comes in very handy in this situation.
2. Look for sale items. A second hand store will often mark down items that haven’t been selling. (2.00 to five dollars is a fair price for a piece of clothing)
3. Look for quality stitches, fabrics, material and brands. You may find an item that is brand new at a second hand store and of course it is marked up because of the new factor but in the end you could have gotten it at your local _____mart for less.
4. Take a good look at the entire item. Look for any problems like stains, tears or holes and make sure the zippers work properly.
5. Ask the manager when they put out new items and shop frequently.
6. Look for specific items – have an idea of what you need before you go. Keep a good inventory of all household items by decluttering regularly.
7. Accessories are always a good items to look for at thrift stores. When I was a youth I would purchase just one or two name brand items and then accessorize and supplement my wardrobe at the thrift store.
