The Affliction Factor
Heavenly Father says he chastizes those he loves…sometimes I wish He wasn’t so fond of me but then there are times like this week when I realize how beautiful someone’s afflictions can make them.
There is this Molly in my ward who is absolutly stunning, long blond hair, great figure, the works but…. she’s nice. I’m not talking civilized but slightly pretentious nice or nice because it is the right thing to do nice, or even the “I’m trying really hard to be a good person, but I really don’t like you nice”, but the real, generous, say the right thing at the right moment, make people feel better about who they are when they are around her nice! It takes a lot to get there, to be that type of person and it usually takes some form of refining, burning and a whole lot of pain to get that kind of compassion and love for the human race. If it doesn’t make you bitter it will make you beautiful. Today I love the affliction I’m in. And just like one more workout gets you that much closer to the body you want, a little affliction can get you that much closer to becoming the person you want to become.
