VT Handout December: The Gift

The Tiniest Gift

I spent Thanksgiving in Orem, Utah this year, making me nostalgic for my Alma Mater, the beautiful BYU campus. The lights and holiday atmosphere reminded me of finals, hot cocoa, study food, dorm room late night talks amid piles of books and term papers. Admittedly, I learned more from those late night talks, than from the piles of books. It was a time I will never forget, and always treasure. It reminded me of one special Holiday season. My visiting teachers had dropped off a cute little quote with a tiny little package and I had set it down on my dresser to look at when I had a moment. Most semesters, I had plenty of company, our dorm was usually filled with friends and suitors, but this year there had been a drought and I was one of the last ones to leave, with one of the last finals. The dorm was very quiet when I picked up my little VT gift. This is what it said:
“This is a very special gift
That you can never see
The reason that it’s special
It’s just for you from me
Whenever you are lonely, overwhelmed
Or ever feeling blue
You only have to hold this gift
To know I think of you
You never can unwrap it
Please leave the ribbon tied
Just hold the box close to your heart
It is filled with LOVE inside.”
Naturally, I opened it up right away. I don’t know what I expected “Love” to look like in a box that small, but I wasn’t disappointed. It was a rose scented bath bomb. I immediately converted my quiet heritage hall dorm into a spa and pretended that I didn’t have any finals left, and that the dorm didn’t still need to pass inspection, and for a moment, I was stress free. It was a great gift. It is funny how the smallest gift can bring so much joy. For a print out of this quote Special Gift Tags PDF Click Here.
