FHE Felt Board Insert
My first attempt at adding a felt board insert to my FHE binder was easy enough. It was just a piece of stiff felt, cut to size and hole punched. It worked well enough I guess, depending on what I used on the back of the story pieces. But then I compared the stickiness to regular felt and found that did a little better so here is my new felt board.
I used a piece of heavy chipboard. You can find it on the back of a notepad or it can be purchased just as long as it stands up on its own when you hold it up. That would make it easier for the story teller. I just stuck some stick- back felt to one side of the chipboard. Miter the corners by cutting a triangle off of the corner and folding them in for a clean edge.
Put it into the side sleeve in your binder and get ready to tell stories. For the stories provided in the lessons there are many ways to make them “stick” to the felt board. TIP: Be prepared to clean your scissors off with dish-soap to remove the adhesive. It is very strong.
-
Use Velcro pieces – (the prickly teeth side) they come in all sizes with adhesive and can just be stuck to the back of your image.
-
Put some flannel or felt (flannel is thinner) through your sticker maker and/or glue it onto the back of your image.
-
Sand paper works well too but can be expensive just stick it onto the back of your image with glue or your sticker maker.
-
Or my favorite way is to use fabric transfers onto felt or flannel.
The images can be laminated before you add the back but make sure that the laminate you use is responsive to adhesive before you start.
And that, in a nutshell, is how to add a story teller’s felt board to your FHE binder.
