She knows her Economy

So there you are in church and you lay your baby’s blanket down during Relief Society, add some toys and hope you might get the gist of the lesson before baby’s attention span runs out, when out of the blue comes another baby from across the room and takes the toy away from yours! Back before I understood the value of a good economy, I would naturally make my daughter “Share”. It wasn’t long before I learned to have a couple of good toys to “Trade” hidden in the diaper bag. So next time wayward little baby from across the room came to take my baby’s toy, I was prepared with something to trade and distract them with, saying, “She’s playing with that now would you like to play with this instead? Sharing is an advanced concept and its pre-requisite is knowing that there is always enough, that their “special things” are safe in a blessing box when their friends come over to play and there are some things that are just for them. So I would put their special (and expensive or hard to replace) things in a box on a shelf if cousins or friends were expected for a visit. They could then feel comfortable to share what they had left and even then with the promise that if something gets broken while sharing it would be replaced with something of equal value. This is all in an effort to avoid the “Scarcity Mentality” and promote faith. Because isn’t it true that Heavenly Father will give us what is needed and if we are willing to share and pay our tithing,  will replace it a thousand times. His blessings upon the righteous are infinite.
