Chapter 42: The Gathering of The House of Israel

Tepee Treats by Family Fun

Thought: Gordon B. Hinckley, “The Light of a New Day”, Friend, Jan. 2008
Lesson: “Chapter 42: The Gathering of the House of Israel,” Gospel Principles, (2009)
Story: Friend, Jan. 1999 The Good Shepherd
Activity: The Wheat is ready to Harvest Activity. To illustrate how we can participate in the gathering of others, put a couple of cups of wheat in a bowl with 12 paper clips. Have each participant close their eyes and try to find the paper clips among the wheat. When they do have them give ways that we can help to gather Israel. (like setting a good example, living the gospel, missionary work, doing our temple work and family history etc.)
For younger children: Peggy H. McClanahan, “Hen and Chicks”, Friend, Nov. 1995 page 20. This is a cute craft activity that could also double as the thought for this FHE lesson.
Game: Jennifer Hughes, For Little Friends: “Good Shepherd Game”, Friend, March 2001, 33.
For this game you could use chicks instead of sheep to go with the hen or you could also use tepee treats and they have to find their own tribe etc.
Treat:
To represent the 12 tribes of Israel, you could do a dozen of these cute tepees by Family Fun magazine. Or to go with the story you could use one of these recipes, “I am the Good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” John 10:14 Candy Canes or Cookies shaped as Shepherds Crooks or sheep. Or Ice-Cream Sheep by The Friend or Sheep Cake by Family Fun
